Medicare Opt-Out Status

Please note that our provider has formally opted out of Medicare. This means we do not bill Medicare for services, and Medicare will not reimburse for care provided in our office. Patients with Medicare may still be seen, but they must sign a private contract acknowledging financial responsibility for all services received.

Why do functional medicine providers not accept insurance?
Functional medicine providers often prioritize longer appointment times and personalized care, which may not align with insurance reimbursement rates. Insurance tends to reimburse what we do to patients, not what we teach or empower patients to do.

What are covered services?
Covered services are those deemed medically necessary by the insurance provider. Medical necessity refers to services or treatments that are required to diagnose or treat a medical condition effectively. Insurance plans typically cover services that are considered medically necessary based on established medical guidelines and standards of care. Therefore, covered services are directly related to medical necessity, as insurance will only pay for treatments that are deemed necessary for the patient's health and well-being.

What about non-covered services?
Non-covered services are NOT billed to insurance and may be paid for via self-pay options, included in concierge plans, or offered at a discount in concierge plans.

What is the difference between a conventional and functional visit?
Conventional visits include care that is considered medically necessary based on established medical guidelines and standards of care. It is a basic level of care designed with established guidelines for prevention and screenings, identification and treatment of disease. This is the type of care you can expect to get from a typical provider.

A functional visit builds upon conventional care. While conventional visits focus on treating symptoms and managing diseases, functional visits delve deeper into identifying root causes of health issues, optimizing bodily functions, and promoting overall well-being. Functional medicine practitioners often consider factors such as genetics, environment, lifestyle, and nutrition in their assessments and treatment plans. They may use advanced diagnostic testing and personalized treatment strategies, including dietary and lifestyle interventions, supplements, and alternative therapies, to address underlying imbalances and support the body's natural healing processes. The goal of a functional visit is to empower patients to take an active role in their health, optimize their vitality, and prevent future health problems.
